Nancy, Great. I think it will definitely help people to get started and give seasoned speakers an opportunity to share what they've learned... sometimes the hard way. And, a mentor can really give really honest advice since the conversations are p...

Hey new members! Don't go it alone. If you need some help in learning the ropes, want some private coaching, or just need a little TLC to get yourself to the podium, why not ask a seasoned club member to be your mentor? If you need some help in fi...

Hi Diane,
Last night I mentioned posting your General Eval for last night's meeting online. If you look in the forum section, you'll see mine from the 9-21-09 meeting and David's from the week before. Nancy was the person who showed me how to do it if you need help.
Regards,
Sue

Of course I'm coming Monday! I completely empathize with you--the last meeting was not fun at all--too much focus on following the rules and succeeding at competition and not enough focus on being supportive and laughing and having fun. Heck, even if you looked at the topics of the three speeches--they were all motivational speeches and not the usual fun mix of stuff i.e. converting from analog to digital TV, or why we're going through an economic meltdown. Interesting stuff.
For what it's worth, here are my words of wisdom (and it goes without saying that they are worth what you paid for them): First, Monday's meeting will be 120 minutes; of that, your part will be 4.5 minutes. That's 3.3% of the meeting--nothing too much to stress over in terms of focusing on your own performance. Second, you're there to cheer on your Huntington Toaster colleagues and to make comments about that woman that I hated behind her back--oh yes, and to keep me company!. And last, when this is over, you'll be proud of yourself that you participated. And if you're not, then I will be proud of you for participating.
