Advancing Public Speaking on Long Island for Decades

On March 16th, we had a meeting with an "Academy Awards" theme. Bill D. had made suggestions like having themes at the March 9 meeting, and that sparked my creative juices just a bit. The main point (for me) of this theme was twofold: 1) Have fun with a theme, and 2) Demonstrate how an effective introduction of a Project Speaker (or any speaking role) really makes an ordinary toastmasters meeting into something more special.

To facilitate these Introductions, I sent an email to each of the Project Speakers asking them 5 questions (see attachment). In summary, those questions were: 1) Speech Title?, 2) CC# or AC#, 3) A brief description of what the speech is about, 4) A brief background description of the speaker, and 5) Tell us something about yourself that no one else knows! Armed with that information, the Toastmaster of a meeting can easily craft an effective Introduction in their own style. With all this in mind, I am going to prod future Project Speakers to provide the Toastmaster and/or the Officer of the Day this information!

An unrelated "Ah ha" moment occurred this meeting (and it wasn't the Ethnography!). John M. and Mike S. both used "Powerpoint / Keynote" style projections for their CC#8 speeches. This filled the entire (huge) screen at the back of the Forum Room... Wow! I'm suddenly motivated to think more about the potential of using this sort of technology in future meetings...
